Day 52 - Dinosaurs

Headed off this morning to Lark Quarry Conservation Park to see the dinosaur stampede. The drive is about 110km of mainly good road, partly bitumen and the rest good hard packed dirt, without too much corrugations.

We were here 24 years ago, not long after the place first opened. The facilities were quite primitive back then, and it is a very different experience nowadays.

Firstly a few videos are shown, explaining about what the scientists believe happened to cause the stampede, as well as the types of dinosaurs that stampeded. Nothing can be proven as no actual bones were found, but it is all very interesting supposition.

After we had finished, we decided to drive all the way to Longreach, and setup camp at the Apex Riverside camp, a massive area for camping, with a minimal $10 charge per night.

Tonight we watched 3 storm fronts converge, with high winds beforehand. We decided to drop the awning because of the winds, and made a quick chicken soup for dinner which we ate in the back of the camper. When the rain, thunder and lightning started, thankfully the winds stopped, so we decided to have an early night and watch the storm from the camper.
