Day 1 - Home to Carrathool

We left home around 8am and stopped by our local cafe, Silver Fox, for breakfast. Chatted to Oliver the owner and told him about our trip and that we would be away for the next 3 months. The look on his face was priceless. He just couldn't fathom what we were about to do and why we would want to do it! Oliver gave us a couple of fresh baked muffins as a gift and hoped it would sustain us if we ran out of food.

Today ws all about putting big kilometers between us and home, so we just spent the day driving. Unfortunately, the M5 southbound was a carpark due to an accident overnight, so spent the first hour just trying to get out of Sydney.

3 years ago, we found a great pub called the Carrathool Family Hotel, where we could camp for free across the road, have a few drinks at the pub in front of the fireplace and then stagger back to the camper. We decided to stop here again on this trip, and the same couple still run the pub. They are very friendly, the drinks are cold and plentiful, and the food is fantastic pub food.

We traveled 630km today and the weather ranged from 5 to 13 degrees. A little bit of light rain, but mostly sunny and clear. Tomorrow is expected to be a low of 2 degrees.
