Day 17 - Corrugatìons and sand dunes

Date:
Sunday, July 7, 2024

Started today as usual leaving the Pierre Springs campsite at 830am.

The tracks were muddy, rocky and bloody corrugated again, some of the worst we've driven on. We stopped at wells 7, 8, 9 and 10, before finally hitting the sand dunes this afternoon. They weren't really challenging yet for the Ranger, although some of the other cars needed a few goes to get up them.

Arrived at Well 12 about 4pm and did the usual washing and setup camp. Checked the car to see how it faired after all of the corrugations. Mostly everything was ok, but found a loose bolt on the undercar bash plates which was in an awkward place to tighten. Will need to keep an eye on this in the coming days.

We had butter chicken and naan bread for dinner tonight then joined everyone around the campfire for the evening.

The temperature was very mild tonight with no wind at all, and it got up to 21 degrees today. The plan for tomorrow is to reach Durba Springs, a distance of about 137km, through more sand dunes country. We will be having a rest day once we reach there.
