Day 3 - Mildura to Overland Corner SA
Got up about 730am this morning and had bacon and eggs for breakfast. Left the campsite around 930am and made our way back in to Mildura for our Paddle Wheeler cruise up the Murray River. Met a nice older couple on the boat and chatted alot to them whilst slowly paddling the river. He was Scottish and his wife Australian and they like to joke and take the piss out of each other. He was a sea captain on gas tanker ships and very interesting to talk to.
Once we finished our cruise around 1pm, we made ourselves a quick sandwich to eat whilst driving, and headed across the VIC/SA border towards Renmark SA. The quarantine border checkpoint is huge now and every vehicle is stopped and checked. We chatted to the officer and he was also into 4WDing, so he was keenly looking at our camper.
At Renmark, we stopped at the local Mitre 10 to buy a spare butane cylinder and BWS to buy some drinks, then headed about 40 minutes down the road to a place called the Overland Corner Hotel, which had free camping down the back, beside the river. The pub closed at 4pm, so it was just as well we had already bought our drinks beforehand. Found a nice spot by the river, with lots of pelicans, who were keen to check us out.
The moon looked awesome tonight as it was rising. A very firey orange colour.
We drove 181km today and the top temperature was 15 degrees.
Off to Woomera tomorrow. A big day of driving ahead of us, around 500kms.
