Day 27 and 28 - Nearing Well 33

Date:
Wednesday, July 17, 2024

More sand dunes and wells. We have been working out way towards Well 33, our finishing point for the CSR due to track closures further ahead.

More car repairs were needed, but to Wylie's car again as his axle has moved backwards again. Luckily, as we knew what to do already, we were able to get the repair done a lot quicker.

We finally reached the Kunawarritji Community today and were able to resupply food and fuel at the Community store. Wylie also arranged for us to have hot showers and flushing toilets but as we arrived a bit late, we will have to use them in the morning.

We found out from the shop staff that the park rangers had decided to open the CSR past Well 33 for travel as far as Well 47, so Wylie is going to talk to Vic Widman tonight to see if we will be able to do the remainder of the stock route.

Leanne and I decided that due to our car suspension issues, we wouldn't continue the CSR trip and head directly to Alice Springs by the Gary Junction Rd. It is an 1100km trip on mostly graded roads, according to a local we met at the Well 33 campground, who has done the CSR 67 times and was one of the founding members of Track Care WA, who built all of the toilets and restored some of the wells.

So tomorrow means we will depart our tour group, and we will meet up with them again in Alice Springs on 26th.
