Day 33 - Hanging on the telephone

Date:
Tuesday, July 23, 2024

Lots of phone calls this morning. Yesterday, I rang Pedders to see if they had suspension parts for our car and if they could do the repairs for us. The earliest they could fit us in would be Friday, 4 days from now. I discussed the repairs with them and they recommended a couple of mechanics and welders who might be able to do the work sooner for us. Pedders were also going to check if they had parts on hand.

I spoke to a welder and trailer fabricator called Mick about what I thought needed doing. Seems everyone here in Alice Springs knows Mick. In fact Donald at Pedders even called him "bloody Mick"! He told me he could do the repairs tomorrow. Pedders called back and verified they had the parts we needed, new bushes, bolt, nut and crush tubes. We went to Pedders to pick up the parts and then to the tow company to pay for our recovery, and organize them to drop the car to Mick, so that he could complete the repairs tomorrow.

Spent the afternoon updating our blog and Facebook with stories and photos. Heading out to dinner tonight. Tomorrow we have to check out of the caravan park and move to Wintersun Caravan Park, for the next 3 nights.

EDIT: Whilst we were at dinner, Mick called to say the car was fixed and ready for pickup. Looks like we are back in business. We will pickup the car first thing in the morning.
