Day 58 - Planes and bushrangers

Date:
Saturday, August 17, 2024

The QANTAS Founders museum was our first stop this morning. We all wandered through the museum, then Joan and Michael did the hanger and airplane tour. They have a DC3, Super Constellation, 707 and 747-200 that they take you through, telling the history of all of the planes on display. The 707 is not an original QANTASplane, but in it's past life was a private jet at some stage, used by Michael Jackson. It still has a king size bed, 4 bathrooms, 6 television sets and a lounge and dining room.

After lunch, we did a bit of shopping before heading back to the Apex park, before our river cruise tonight.

This evening, we did the Starlights Cruise Experience. We started with a paddle wheel steamer cruise down the Thomson River, watching the sun set on our way back. We then all gathered in a recreation of a stock camp, where we we fed a dinner of stew and mash potatoes, cooked on the fire followed by dessert of apple pie and custard. The meal was great. Then some entertainment including some bush poetry, and finally a light and sound spectacular movie about Captain Starlight. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
